2022-23 Donruss Basketball is set to arrive at the All-Star break and the long running brand is once again heavy on parallels and inserts.
Hobby boxes will contain just ten packs, but there will be 30 cards to a pack. “Fat packs” have been the hobby box norm for the product since the 2018-19 Donruss set.
Panini did not say how large this year’s set would be, but last year’s product had 250 base cards and 50 Rated Rookies.
Panini America is promising at least one autograph per hobby box of Donruss Basketball, and a total of 60 parallels and inserts will once again be packed inside. In its initial product information, Panini did not indicate boxes would have any memorabilia cards this year.
The base set will include current NBA stars and first-year players, who will have the venerable Donruss “Rated Rookie” designation.
There are several Hobby-exclusive parallels in the product. They include Basketball (numbered to 75), Holo Blue Laser (49), Holo Gold Laser (10) and Holo Black Laser (1/1).
The autograph card will either be found on Rated Rookies Signatures or the Next Day Autographs subset.
Inserts will include the comic book-inspired Net Marvels, which returns for another year. Other returnees are Craftsmen, Crunch Time, Production Line and Retro Series. Unleashed is another insert for collectors to chase.
Making its debut this year will be hobby-exclusive SSPs. Night Moves, featuring a dark background and a burst of colors, almost looks like something a star-gazer might see. Naturally, the checklist will be a mix of NBA stars and rookies.
Animation! is another hobby-exclusive SSP. These cards feature a comic book panel format, with illustrations of players set against an action-inspired background.
The current release date for 2022-23 Donruss Basketball is March 8.
Hobby boxes are online now for around $285. Blaster boxes and other configurations are also available.
