They’re generally not considered “rookies” under the current definition, but the vast majority of the time, a player’s first Bowman Chrome card–usually one carrying his autograph–are a current player’s most popular and most valuable card.
From Albert Pujols to Mike Trout to Mookie Betts, it’s the Bowman Chrome card, usually issued prior to a player even spending a full season in the big leagues, that generates the biggest sales.
Of course, a player usually has several different parallel versions and generally the lower the serial number, the bigger the price. Collectors, prospectors and investors will often spend thousands of dollars for a player’s most limited Bowman Chrome autograph, especially those carrying a BGS 9.5 (or the uber-rare Pristine 10) ore PSA 10 rating from the professional grading services.
