Sellers connected to online ecommerce platform TCGplayer will soon be able to sell sports cards in what’s traditionally been a gaming-oriented space.
The company will be inviting sellers to list their sports cards on its marketplace beginning this summer.
In exchange for a transaction fee that generally ranges from 8.95% to 10.25%, TCGplayer enables stores as well as on-line and individual sellers to offer their inventory on its site with images and pricing tools. Retailers can utilize an in-store kiosk capable of showcasing the store’s card inventory and other options. TCGplayer does not charge listing fees.
Sellers who participate in the more individually tailored Pro program receive a suite of tools aimed at expanding their sales reach. There’s also a direct fulfillment option, similar to COMC. The company says it has over one million customers using its marketplace.
TCGplayer called sports cards “the most financially lucrative hobby collectible product line in the world right now.”
The company cited the size of the sports card industry as being nearly three times the size of the collectible card game industry.
“We believe that we can create a pathway for our current local hobby store partners to take advantage of the substantial upside we see within this new product line,” they stated. “We are dedicated to equipping all retailers with the tools and services needed to expand into this high-growth vertical.”
