We used to keep them in shoeboxes. In 2022, the hobby buzzword might just be “vault.”
Collectors, parent company of PSA, has become the latest operator of an all-in-one service that allows collectors to house, buy and sell on a single platform without actually possessing the physical item. The company first announced its plans for the vault platform in March.
Collectors Vault allows customers to submit items for authentication and grading through PSA and then transfer those items directly to the vault for secure storage.
The company also says it will soon offer the option to list items in the vault for sale on the Goldin Marketplace. Items purchased through Goldin can also be quickly submitted to the Collectors Vault for secure storage.
The announcement comes on the heels of a similar move by eBay. PWCC, Beckett and Alt also have vault storage options.
Just like eBay’s vault, the one operated by Collectors will be located in Delaware, meaning the company doesn’t have withhold tax on orders shipped and stored in the facility. All items stored in the Collectors Vault – regardless of their value – are fully insured at no-cost.
Collectors says its vault “employs advanced security features, including 24/7/365 armed guards, Class 3 torch and tool-rated UL vault doors and cutting-edge seismic motion detectors.”
“There’s no one-size-fits-all collector and everyone has slightly different motivations,” stated Nat Turner, CEO of Collectors. “Some people want to build collections over years that have deep personal meaning while others are looking for the agility to time the market and quickly buy, sell and trade items.”
The Collectors Vault isn’t just for high end items. The company says it’s open to graded cards valued at more than $100. Collectors will be accepting graded cards for storage at this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention.
In addition to the vault, Collectors is also launching several new products this week, including:
- Collectors ID: Enabling a single sign-on and password for PSA, Goldin, Collectors Vault, and PCGS.
- My Collection: Customers can manage their entire inventory of graded cards in a single location. Collectors can add graded cards to their inventory by scanning their graded cards’ QR code with their device or searching based on certification number.
- Collectors Estimate: Provides access to real-time estimated values for collectibles.
PSA also said Wednesday that the first cards authenticated through its new office in New Jersey were graded and shipped this week.
