The 2018 Industry Summit opened Sunday night in Dallas. Beckett owns the Summit, which was originally the Hawaii Trade Conference with roots in the 1980s. It was resurrected in Las Vegas several years ago.
Distributors, hobby shops, a couple of sports card manufacturers, the NFLPA, NBA and a few other hobby businesses are gathering for discussions, presentations and outings.
The move to Texas puts the Summit in the backyard of Panini America and Leaf Trading Cards. Both companies will be part of the program but Upper Deck and Topps now hold their own events.
Look for a few announcements early in the week. The Summit runs through Wednesday morning.
The earliest known Hank Aaron game model bat sold for $132,000 Saturday night at Heritage Auctions, a new auction record for an Aaron bat. It comes with a pretty good story from the only owner it had ever known who got it when the Braves were brand new in Milwaukee.
A kid who grew up as a passionate Chicago Black Hawks fan had an uncle who cut some team members’ hair back in the 1950s and 60s. When it came time for his birthday, the uncle hit up his famous clients for a gift or two. After hanging onto them for about 55 years, Joe Serpico sold one of the jerseys he received from two the biggest names in Chicago hockey for $90,000. He told the story to the Associated Press.
A nice crowd turned out at the Nashville Sports Card and Collectibles show on Saturday.
