Football may have taken him to Texas Tech and then on to Super Bowl victories with the Kansas City Chiefs, but Patrick Mahomes was pretty good at other sports too.
Now, a signed baseball from his high school baseball days in Texas is up for auction after having been snatched up by an alert shopper at a thrift store near Dallas.
The ball carries an early signature of Mahomes and several of his teammates at Whitehouse High School. Like some of his other teammates who inked the ball, the teenaged Mahomes added his number 5 to the signature, which has changed a lot since then.
PSA/DNA was able to authenticate the autograph, which is similar to other high school autographs Mahomes is known to have signed.
The ball is now up for auction at Lelands, where bidding is set to close Saturday.
It wouldn’t have been unusual for a youngster to snare autographs from Mahomes and his baseball teammates ten years ago. They were among the best high school teams in Texas and Mahomes was a star.
In this 2014 clip from a local TV station, he tossed a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts when he dueled Michael Kopech, a pitcher who’d wind up in the major leagues.

Mahomes would have been a fairly high MLB draft pick had he not made his intentions to play football known. The Detroit Tigers took a flyer on him with their 37th round pick in the 2014 draft.
