An autographed 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card sold on eBay for a record $125,000 Wednesday afternoon. The card was graded 8.5 by Beckett with an autograph grade of 10.
The sale was made on eBay.
The card was one of 23 purchased on the secondary market by Upper Deck about 15 years ago. They were then autographed by Jordan and randomly inserted into packs of 2006-07 Fleer basketball, the defunct brand that was purchase by Upper Deck.
The promotion commemorated the 20th anniversary of Fleer’s landmark 1986-87 set that put basketball cards back on the mainstream map.
The ABC-TV affiliate in Knoxville, TN checked in with Eddie Barkley of Eddie’s Sports Treasures about the impact of The Last Dance on the hobby.
