Veteran Matthew Stafford may be the winner of the NFL’s Offensive MVP award and an eventual place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame but card collectors gravitate toward the young quarterbacks and this year’s grading MVP was Patriots’ quarterback Drake Maye.
PSA says it graded over 30 times more Maye cards than Stafford this year as NFL prospectors jumped on the success of New England’s second year QB.
Stafford, 38, won the MVP by a razor thin margin over Maye Friday night. On Sunday, Maye struggled in his quest to become one of the youngest quarterbacks to win a Super Bowl.
The total volume cards featuring the 23-year-old Maye that have been graded by PSA since August stands at over 50,000. The company graded only about 1,600 Stafford cards during the same time frame.
The top 5 list of most graded Maye cards were all rookie issues:
1. 2024 Panini Prizm #329
2. 2024 Panini Prizm Silver #329
3. 2024 Donruss #379 Rated Rookie
4. 2024 Donruss Rated Rookies Retro #16
5. 2024 Donruss #379 Optic Preview-Pink
Leading up to the Super Bowl, at least 2,000 Maye cards had sold each day since Dec. 29 of last year. Six Maye cards have sold for $80,000 or more this season, topped by the Nov. 1 sale of his 2024 Panini National Treasures NFL Shield 1/1 (graded 9 by PSA) that netted $164,700.
