The National Geographic Channel premiered its special on the dismantling of the old Yankee Stadium Thursday night.
Before the park was demolished, the Yankees and Steiner Sports purchased what was inside and commenced selling and auctioning everything from seats to signs. Even grass.
Sod that was removed was cut into tiny squares and sold. Some of it sold, but a lot of it is now…well…just grass. That includes the iconic area behind home plate where the famous “NY” logo appeared.
That section didn’t sell and the novelty has apparently worn off, according to this story by Yahoo Sports.
