Bidding is underway on 1400 lots of sports cards and sports memorabilia being offered by Mile High Card Company. The auction includes several of the highest graded vintage card sets known including a 1966 Topps set, rated #1 on the PSA Set Registry that has already vaulted to over $59,000 with a week still to go in the bidding process.
“I’m not surprised to see this level of early bidding activity, as the quality of material being presented is truly remarkable, especially with regard to the PSA set registry,” said Mile High President Brian Drent.
This auction centers around a very impressive conglomeration of PSA-graded complete sets straight from the highest levels of the Set Registry, highlighted by the jaw-dropping 1966 Topps baseball complete set with an unheard-of GPA of 9.25. The 1966 Topps set includes numerous Hall of Famers including the last card of Sandy Koufax.
Another early hit is a group of 560 1977 Topps baseball cards, all graded PSA 10. The near set carries a current high bid of nearly $32,000, proving that ‘vintage ’ and ‘valuable’ don’t have to mean the days before color TV.
Also among the high grade vintage set lots is a 1963 Topps master set that currently checks in as #4 on the registry as well as a 1959 Topps complete set that holds rank at #9 on the registry.
The auction isn’t just full of baseball cards, though. There is a 1952 Bowman Small complete set that is ranked #2 on the registry and has been bid past $26,000 in the first two weeks of bidding. The set is accompanied by an equally spectacular ’52 Bowman Large set that checks in as #3 on the list.
Hockey enthusiasts need not look far for their collectibles fix either, as a head-spinning 1961 Topps set that occupies the #1 finest spot on the registry is presented, along with a 1911 C55 set and a 1954 Topps complete set that enjoy advanced rankings.
There are hundreds of single cards, many of which are rarely offered for sale. There is an 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco Cap Anson card graded SGC 40 VG, along with a 1912 Colgan’s Chips Joe Jackson graded SGC 20, an 1887 N172 Old Judge John Irwin “Washington” card graded an astounding MINT 9 by PSA, and a 1919-21 W514 #15 Joe Jackson Hand Cut keepsake also graded PSA 9 MINT.
And for those hearty souls who have endeavored to tackle “the Monster,” a T206 Sherry Magie (Magee) specimen is offered, in PSA 2 GOOD condition (currently over $13,500). There is a 1952 Bowman #1 Yogi Berra in a PSA 9 MINT holder, a very tough 1914 Cracker Jack #93 Del Pratt graded PSA 4 VG/EX and a 1909 T205 Gold Border Tris Speaker in PSA 8 NM/MT condition.
Memorabilia collectors will also have plenty to drool over, as single-signed baseballs of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Cy Young are offered, along with a Lou Gehrig autographed ball that features other Hall of Fame autographs but can be displayed as a single. Plenty of vintage photographs, game-used jerseys and a 1957 Cleveland Browns team-signed football featuring a rookie-year Jim Brown are also available.
The auction isn’t all ultra high-end, though. Dozens of lots start at $50 including numerous high grade vintage cards. See a full gallery of images below.
