Thieves broke into a large northern Wisconsin shop last week and stole virtually the entire inventory of cards.
It was deja vu all over again for a frustrated sports memorabilia dealer.
Tens of thousands of sports cards were taken when a burglary occurred at the Jadeco Hobby Shop in Wausau, Wisconsin last Wednesday.
It’s the second time in 15 months store owner Darren Manville has been victimized. Thieves also broke in last December and stole thousands of cards. Manville says he may be forced out of business.
"My first reaction was, ‘I give up’," Manville told WSAW-TV. "I lost everything, I gotta start form scratch and spent so much money over the years. It’s just beyond belief."
According to the company website, Jadeco is a large hobby shop which carries sections of collectibles from a variety of collecting specialties, from stamps to models to military collectibles.
Manville says all of the cards have a special label marking them as "Dareco". He has contacted other card shops in the region, and of course, will no doubt be watching eBay. Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact the Portage County (WI) Crimestoppers division at 1-888-346-6600.
