New York State Police are on the case of the wayward Wilson Williams.
A hotel room break-in earlier this month in upstate New York has investigators looking for a rare Ted Williams baseball card. New York State Police Investigators in Canandaigua say it was stolen from a hotel in Farmington.
The card, a1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams card, graded PSA 4 (VG-EX) and valued at about $5,000, was taken sometime around October 4. It’s unclear why the theft investigation is just now being publicized.
The ’54 Wilson Franks Williams card is extremely rare in high grade, and hard to find in any condition. A PSA 4 sold at auction last year for $5380 while an SGC 88 brought $40,250 in July of this year.
The owner of the stolen card, a guest from Canada, had just obtained it. According to state police, the unidentified collector paid $5,500 to an Arizona dealer and had it sent to a friend in Pennsylvania, who met the man at a motel near Rochester with that card and five others.
New York State Police say is offering a reward for its safe return.
