A rare 1921 Oxford Confectionery Babe Ruth and hundreds of other vintage card singles, lots and sets are on the block this month as Wheatland Auctions opens its second sale of the year.
The online auction includes 768 lots, spanning from the 1880s to the present day.
The Oxford Ruth, graded SGC 1, is one of fewer than 60 that have been professionally graded. The set also included Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Tris Speaker, Rogers Hornsby and other stars of the day. It was a promotion for the Oxford, PA based company but few other details are known.
The auction also includes a 1931 W517 Ruth rated SGC 3 and a 1948 Leaf Ruth, graded SGC 4.
There is a sizeable group of T206s including a trio of different Cobb cards. Other T206 stars and rare backs are part of the sale as well.
Collectors looking for Mickey Mantle cards will find a stack of them, including a PSA 2 1951 Bowman rookie card, mid-grade copies of his 1953 Topps, a BGS 6 1953 Bowman, PSA 7 1966 Topps and PSA 6 1958 Topps. There’s also a rare 1964 Mantle linen emblem.
Additional vintage cards include a 1951 Willie Mays PSA 5 (MC), two 1953 Topps Satchel Paige cards in lower grade, a 1953 Topps Jackie Robinson (SGC 3 and 2.5), a 1954 Topps Jackie Robinson SGC 3, two copies of the short printed 1954 Bowman Ted Williams (SGC 3.5 & 3), a 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan Rookie PSA 5, a 1953 Bowman Color Yogi Berra BVG 7 and a 1953 Bowman Color Stan Musial BVG 6.5.
There are numerous lots featuring Exhibit Baseball cards, including those of Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and Willie Mays.
Wheatland is offering numerous vintage baseball and football sets including a near set of 1953 Topps Baseball, a complete 1956 Topps Baseball set, near sets of 1959 and ’60 Topps, multiple partial sets of 1961 Topps, a full set of ’63 Topps and a complete set of 1955 Bowman Football.
Modern era card collectors will find early Michael Jordan Fleer cards including a rookie, a 2000 Bowman Tom Brady PSA 7 and a large selection of Kobe Bryant cards, highlighted by a BGS 90.5 rookie card, a 2002-03 Topps Chrome SGC 10, a 1996-97 Topps Draft Pick Redemption SGC 9 and a 1998-99 Fleer Tradition Electrifying SGC 9.
Current era high-end sport offerings include a 2023 Prizm Barry Sanders Flashback Autographs 1/1 as well as multiple sealed wax products.
A 1941 Lou Gehrig Memorial ticket stub and a Mantle signed baseball are among the memorabilia offered in the auction, which is open through May 21 on Wheatland’s website.
