Jerry West was a last-minute cancellation at the Chicago Sun-Times Sports Collectibles Convention over the weekend but dozens of other past and present stars were able to make it to the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, signing autographs for collectors and fans.
With winter weather bearing down on parts of the Midwest, cold temperatures in abundance and the NCAA Tournament providing competition, keeping the turnstiles spinning was likely a challenge. Some collectors are also saving their cash for another trip to Chicago this summer when the National Sports Collectors Convention sets up shop in the same location.
Vintage cards are one big attraction at this show with dealers, auction companies and grading firms making the trek to set up their booths.
One new face on the autograph circuit was Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees. Manti Te’o also showed up.
