If you’re not busy finding new ways to buy/sell/trade on the internet, you’re missing the boat.
And..long live the Lizard.
We shipped out hundreds of postcards this spring to various card shops and dealers introducing this site and asking if they’d be interested in a spot in our on-line directory. Hopefully if you’re a dealer, you got one. If not, we’ll send one to you.
Only one dealer or company can ever be at the top of the Google search rankings when someone searches for ‘sports cards’ or ‘sports memorabilia’. If you don’t have a large bankroll, it’s tough to get on page one with Google or Yahoo–let alone be #1. Yet a prominent place in the search engines can be worth a lot of money when customers can find you–your eBay listings–or your shop–without much effort. You might not be able to afford the marketing dollars to get those customers by yourself. Together, though, dealers and shops can do great things. Attaching yourself to a site with thousands of inbound links and a regular base of collectors already built in is a good way to start. Think about that the next time you think $15 a month is too much to spend.
Adam McFarland is a former engineer who runs SportsLizard.com. I’m not sure where the name comes from, but it’s a very clean site and is certainly worth a bookmark. Adam knows sports–and the hobby– and he also knows a lot about how the internet is changing the way business is done. He and I recently chatted about SportsCollectorsDaily.com and the industry. The transcript of the interview is here.
SportsLizard just launched an on-line price guide for various collectible items that allows you to search for recent selling prices and also import your items with those values into your own ‘collection’ porfolio so you know exactly what you’ve got and an idea of what it’s worth. It works very fast and the price is right :). You might want to give it a whirl.
He also has a very cool RSS feed reader that allows you to get all of your sports news in one place. ESPN, CNN, Fox, CBS Sportsline, SI.com and of course, SportsCollectorsDaily.com. That alone makes it worth a bookmark. And don’t forget, if you’d like to add our headline feed to your site, we should be able to help you.
