Within seconds of their crowning victory, you could find it. And there will be more. Golden State Warriors’ 73-win memorabilia, including some items that will be signed by the team’s big stars, is already flying off shelves in the Bay Area and online.
Fanatics, the largest distributor of sports memorabilia on the internet, has released a line of Warriors items through its websites, including 73-win shirts, photo collages chronicling the record-breaking season and commemorative basketballs printed with a special logo.
Last year, the company signed an exclusive autograph deal with Steph Curry, who is expected to add a second MVP trophy to his collection. Curry obliterated the NBA record by canning 403 three-pointers for the season. That milestone, too, will be inscribed when he sits down for a signing session that will likely happen in July, according to Fanatics spokesman Taylor Lang. Those are already being offered for pre-sale.
“Curry is our top selling athlete right now,” he told Sports Collectors Daily.
In fact, Warriors merchandise as a whole accounted for over 25% of the company’s sales in December.
The most popular item so far is this Curry signed 73-win basketball that will be numbered to just 73 copies.
Earlier visits with Curry resulted in signed photos and autographed basketballs the company has in its current inventory. Cases for those signed balls have been created that carry an engraving of the Warriors’ 2015-16 record.
Autographed items with inscriptions commemorating the record-breaking season and Curry’s accomplishments will be shipped once the autograph session is complete. Don’t expect to see Curry at a public autograph session, however. While he accommodates fans’ requests when crowds aren’t heavy, he doesn’t do card shows.
“Klay Thompson will more than likely do a public appearance for us at some point during the off-season although we don’t have a date set in stone yet,” Lang stated.
