Hank Thomas was a baby when Walter Johnson died, but he’s learned plenty about the Hall of Famer. Enough to write a book and enough to feel comfortable throwing out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals’ home opener. But does he have the final out ball from the 1924 World Series?
Hours of painstaking research led to Hank Thomas’ excellent book "Walter Johnson; Baseball’s Big Train" several years ago. But then he had access to information most of us don’t. Thomas is Johnson’s grandson. He’s been involved in the sports memorabilia business and owns several Johnson relics including a ball from the ’24 Series.
