Ronnie Houser has turned a childhood hobby into his own sports card business.
His first pack of cards hooked him. While some may have quit collecting during their teenage years, Ronnie Houser couldn’t.
Now, four decades later, he makes his living selling baseball cards. The owner of Southern Cards in Bristol, Virginia navigated through the choppy waters of the 1990s, adjusting his business model along the way.
His shop is a hangout for local collectors who have come to depend on it.
"I’ve got a great group of people – and you get new people – I’ve got a really good group of people who come in and I see,” Houser said. “It’s more like a social meeting place than it is like a shop sometimes. … You make a lot of good friends.”
And despite the current economic downturn, he told TriCities.com he’s doing just fine.
