The only thing we older guys got when buying packs of baseball cards? Cavities. Now they get to hang out with Major Leaguers.
Gavin Leonard is back home after a weekend he won’t forget and he has his hobby to thank for it.
According to TriCities.com, It all started a few years ago, when his father Chris bought him a 1969 Topps Hank Aaron card.
The younger Leonard’s obsession took off, and now he spends most of his allowance on sports cards. His father estimates Gavin now has about 13,000 in his stash.
Gavin’s card-collecting turned into something more than a hobby. It became his ticket to meet the New York Yankees shortstop when he won an UpperDeckKids.com contest.
"I bought a box of (Upper Deck) cards (last year) and it said, ‘spell J-E-T-E-R to win,’ " Gavin said. "So I bought four boxes and spelled his name."
