More Vintage Unopened, Lefty Grove Items at Collect Auctions

Bidding is underway in Collect Auctions’ final event of 2014 with more vintage unopened sports card cases and boxes, a signed Hank Aaron rookie card and over 800 other lots viewable at www.collectauctions.com.   Once again, thousands of autographed sports cards, including sets and partial sets are up for grabs along with some one-of-a-kind Lefty Grove items.

Untouched wax, vending and cello boxes, along with unopened cases of 1978 Topps Football Cello, 1980 Topps Football Vending, 1981 Topps Football Vending, and 1974-75 Topps Hockey Vending are among those likely to attract bidders in what has become a red-hot market.

The unopened lineup includes: 1973 Topps Baseball Series 4 wax box; 1975 Topps Baseball cello box; 1975 Topps Baseball vending box; 1971 Topps Football Series 1 vending box; 1972 Topps Football Series 1 vending box; 1972 Topps Football Series 2 wax box; 1975 Topps Football cello box; 1986 Topps Football cello box; 1972-73 Topps Basketball wax box; 1972-73 Topps Hockey vending box graded GAI 10; 1979-80 Topps Hockey vending box and more.

Top autographed items include a Hank Aaron signed 1954 Topps rookie card graded PSA/DNA 9 and a Thurman Munson signed 1976 Topps card (slabbed Authentic by PSA/DNA).  Collect Auctions has sold numerous complete and near complete autographed baseball card sets over the past few years and this auction includes another cache of painstakingly accumulated groups spanning the 1950s to the 1990s.

Among the listings are signed partial sets from 1954 (191 different), 1959 (377 different) and 1960 (385 different), along with a signed 1976 Topps Baseball set; 1978 Topps Baseball near set (641), 1979 Topps Baseball near set (717), 1964 Topps Giants (46/60), Exhibits (74 different), 1981 Donruss (387 different), 1981 Topps Baseball (724/726), 1983 Donruss (399 different), 1983 Donruss HOF Heroes (25/26 possible), 1990 Donruss Baseball (691 different), 1992 Fleer Baseball (697 different), 1953 Topps Archives (232 of 243 possible); 1954 Topps Archives (signed by every possible living player); and a 1978 Topps Football signed starter set (339/528).

The Lefty Grove items are highlighted by the actual ball that Grove used for the first pitch of Game 4 of the 1972 World Series. Grove signed the ball and added “First ball thrown out in the 4 game of World Series 1972 by Lefty Grove.”

There’s also a single-signed OAL Grove baseball; five different multi-signed HOFer baseballs from various Hall of Fame inductions; a Lefty Grove signature model 1961-63 Old Timers game-used Louisville Slugger bat authenticated by PSA/DNA; 1971 All-Star Game glass pitcher and tray presented to Grove; and a set of four 1973 Old Timers glasses given to the Hall of Fame pitcher.

Other highlights include: two different single-signed Babe Ruth baseballs; a  bat signed by 62 former players including Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams; Harmon Killebrew’s game-used and signed 1969 All-Star Game Louisville Slugger bat from his MVP year with a LOA from Killebrew; Thurman Munson signed 8×10 photo (JSA); Muhammad Ali signed training camp check (1973); Noah Webster signed handwritten letter (1833); 1970 and 1971 Kellogg’s Baseball complete sets in original wrappers; 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers team-signed baseball with Campanella and Jackie Robinson (JSA); 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers team-signed cut signature display (JSA); Kirby Puckett 1995 game-used Louisville Slugger bat with a Twins LOA; Nelson Mandela signed United Nations FDC (JSA); and a Christa McAuliffe signed commemorative cachet (PSA/DNA).
