The hobby’s action-packed auction season continues with another major catalog sale launching this week. Mile High Card Company’s spring 2012 auction has opened for bidding featuring a large assortment of high grade vintage cards on the block. The 1630-plus lot auction features up of complete and nearly complete vintage sets from all four of the major sports and a freshly discovered rack pack box of old football cards.
President and CEO Brian Drent exhaled that the sale was “a thorough presentation of a vintage offering that really offered something for everyone, with a great amount of fresh-to-the-hobby material being offered.”
A couple of the highlights of the auction are the following: The #1 PSA Set Registry Current And All Time Finest 1911 T9 Turkey Red Boxing Set which will be offered as a complete set as well as singles and will sell to the highest aggregate bid. Also being offered is a stunning 1917-20 M101-6 Felix Mendelsohn Sporting News Supplement of Babe Ruth which has been graded by PSA as a 5.5 EX+ which is the highest graded copy in the hobby.
The auction, which closes May 24, also has the #2 Current And All Time Finest 1940 Play Ball Near Complete Set which features NM/MT PSA 8 copies of such luminaries as Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson among a multitude of others, a 1952 Topps PSA 8 Mickey Mantle, a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie that has been graded SGC 96 (mint), and an SGC 96 Sandy Koufax rookie card.
Offered of more recent release is a marvelous presentation of a complete 1991 Topps Desert Shield set that has been completely graded by PSA and ranks as the #1 Current And All Time Finest with a virtually unimproveable 9.88 GPA. The set features 690 of the 792 cards graded GEM MINT 10 by PSA.
The other three major sports needn’t be overlooked and include a 1957 Topps #119 Bart Starr that has been awarded the top grade at SGC by grading MINT 96 and a 1969 Topps Football 24 count unopened rack box which is a recent find and should make waves amongst unopened enthusiast
Highlighting the memorabilia offerings is an offering of Type I photographs of Joe Jackson, several of which are traced back to legendary photographer Louis Van Oeyen. Game worn jerseys from the likes of Ripken, Brett, Ichiro, Elway, Bourque and more are in the sale.
