Forty years in the making, a Texas man’s extensive collection of vintage baseball cards and memorabilia has been consigned to Hunt Auctions and will be sold over a series of auctions beginning this summer.
Dating from the 1880s to the 1970s, the collection was meticulously curated over a 40-year period and includes a wide array of complete sets, type cards, high grade specimens, and rarities.
The consignor has asked to remain private.
More details on the collection will be released as auction previews are unveiled but the collection will feature complete, higher grade vintage Topps, Bowman and Goudey gum sets along with T-205, T-202, T3, Sporting Life, L1 Leather, Sport Kings, Allen & Ginter, George C. Miller, S81 silks, U.S. Caramel and numerous others.
According to Hunt Auctions, the consignor worked to constantly upgrade his sets and even put together multiple versions of certain sets based on condition. He also accumulated higher grade duplicate star and rookie cards to complement some of the sets.
The collection is large enough that it will be auctioned over a period of several years within Hunt Auctions’ Premier Live Auction platform with the initial portion to be sold beginning this summer.
“We have been privileged to handle a great number of fresh to the hobby vintage sports card collections during our 30-year history,” remarked company president David Hunt. “This specific collection is quite special as its breadth, condition quality, and scarcities are among the finest groupings to have surfaced within the collecting marketplace in some time. It is of particular note that collections of this scope are exceedingly uncommon to be offered in their entirety given the maturity of the market today as most were offered many years ago or are being retained by current collectors.”
Hunt Auctions is still taking consignments to complement the “Texas Collection” and other vintage cards already in the fold as it pieces together upcoming catalogs. Information is available on the company’s website or by emailing [email protected].
