It’s been 23 years since Upper Deck first produced a set of hockey trading cards.
They’re still at it.
“It’s the biggest part of our business,” says President Jason Masherah.
Despite losing their MLB and NFL licenses in recent years, Upper Deck’s bond with the NHL remains. Collectors love high end products like The Cup, but even the base brand, done in two series, is something die-hard hockey card collectors genuinely look forward to.
The NHL sent a video team to company headquarters recently, talking with everyone from the pressman who prints the cards to designers, a production artist, project manager and copy editor while showcasing what goes into building a hockey card and what the company’s philosophy is.
