Junior and The Babe help launch the newest 2008 baseball card set to hit the market.
Upper Deck is releasing its latest product this week with the launch of SPx Baseball which includes a pair of special tributes honoring two of the most popular players of all time: Ken Griffey Jr. and Babe Ruth.
A company press release promises one autograph or memorabilia card in every pack, on average as well as one patch card per box. The base set includes 100 cards.
Autograph card offerings include “SPx Young Stars Signatures” and “SPx Superstar Signatures” (averaging one per box); “Winning Materials Autograph Parallels” (numbered to 20); and “Winning Materials 3 Autograph Parallels” (numbered to five). The SPx “Rookie Signatures” lineup includes Yankee pitching phenom Ian Kennedy’s first autographed rookie card.
Upper Deck pays tribute to its longtime baseball spokesman – who’s on the verge of joining MLB’s prestigious “600-Home Run Club” this month – by saluting Ken Griffey Junior’s career via the “American Hero” set. It offers memorabilia parallels numbered to 25, autographed parallels numbered to three and 1-of-1 parallels featuring every single game of Junior’s career through the 2007 MLB season.
The Babe Ruth “American Legend” collection includes 1-of-1 cards saluting the “Bambino’s” illustrious career with each card sporting a unique box score and game date.
“MLB SPx takes collectors to new levels with each subsequent release,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s Baseball brand manager. “We’re excited about the base-level design, but we’re really excited about what we’ve done to honor the outstanding careers of Junior Griffey and Babe Ruth. Both of these legendary players deserve the recognition and we’re just glad to be able to compile their stats in such a unique way.”
Upper Deck’s 2008 MLB SPx carries a suggested retail price of $19.99 per three-card pack with 10 packs per box (find Spx on eBay).
