2016-17 Upper Deck Premier Hockey Preview

A new season is coming soon but 2016-17 Upper Deck Premier Hockey will help put the bow of the collecting year next week.  The higher end product offers collectors five autographs or memorabilia cards in every hobby box.  This year’s version will be released on Wednesday, Aug. 16.  

There will be one pack per hobby box and seven cards in a pack. Among the five hits, Upper Deck is promising at least on Rookie or Retro Rookie autograph patch. After the other four hits, the pack will contain a pair of base cards.

The base set will consist of 100 cards, with 40 veterans numbered to 399 and 10 legends numbered to 199. Eleven rookie cards will be autographed and will be numbered to 399, while the remaining rookie cards will be acetate patch autograph cards numbered to 299 (and in some cases, 199). The veteran and legends cards will have autograph and relic parallels, with veterans numbered to 199.

Numbered parallels will include necklines, numbered to 6; and tags, numbered to 3. Autograph rookie cards will have Gold Spectrum parallels, numbered to 25, and 1/1 Blue Spectrum parallels. Both Gold and Blue Spectrum cards will have Autograph Patch cards, numbered to 25 for gold and 1/1 for blue.

Signature Booklets will return, while Premier Gear cards will debut and will be numbered to 15 and 10; these cards will contain swatches items per card. The Gear cards also will have parallels numbered to 3 and will include tag, patch and button relics. Premier Duals Jersey cards will be numbered to 99; also look for Trios (numbered to 75), Quads (numbered either to 49 or 25) and Swatches cards. All of these variations will have Premium parallels.

Some of the tougher pulls from 2016-17 Premier Hockey will be the Inked Script, Premier Signatures Stars and Premier Signatures Legends. Rookies will be featured on a design that pays tribute to the 2003-04 Upper Deck Premier set. Those cards will be numbered to 99, and there also will be gold parallels numbered to 15. The 2002-03 Veteran Auto Patch Tribute set will be numbered to either 25 or 15, plus there will be a gold parallel numbered to 5.

The Mega Patch inserts will include large swatches that measure 1¾ inches by 2¾ inches and cover a large portion of the card. Those game-used patches featuring solo players will include Chest Logos and Sleeve Numbers numbered to 4, Commemorative Logos numbered to 3 and Shoulder Logos (also numbered to 3). There will be multiple player cards, too, with duos numbered to 25 and trios numbered to 5.
