Upper Deck will be releasing a promotional set around the 2016 World Cup of Hockey event to be used in hobby shops as a gift with purchase. The five-card hobby foil packs will feature 40 different subjects (five players from each team).
Autographs and press plate cards will be randomly inserted.
The giveaway is in the same model as Upper Deck’s National Hockey Card Day to help drive traffic to shops to start off the season.
The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will feature eight teams competing for a best-on-best international hockey championship: The eight teams participating in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey are Team Canada, Team Czech Republic, Team Finland, Team Russia, Team Sweden, Team USA, Team Europe and Team North America. The tournament takes place September 17-October 1 in Toronto.
Meanwhile, Upper Deck says an “unauthorized third party” wound up with cards from its 2013-14 NHL The Cup series and has been selling them. Now, the company is planning to reprint those cards.
Here’s their full statement:
Upper Deck has determined two shipments that included unsigned cards from 2013-14 NHL The Cup have been taken and are being sold by an unauthorized third party. The cards in question were card #138 of Brendan Gallagher (#’d to 249) and card #190 of Sean Monahan (#’d to 99). Upper Deck is in the process of reprinting these cards and will be doing so utilizing different imagery than the originals so that fans will know the difference between the two copies. Attached are images of the lost cards that fans should know are uncompleted.
Recently we have seen unsigned and signed copies of the Brendan Gallagher card surface in the secondary market. We recommend collectors DO NOT purchase any of the signed or unsigned cards. The cards are Upper Deck property and we ask that if you come across one of the cards, that you contact our Fraud Investigations Team immediately at [email protected]. If you purchase one of the signed cards, the signature cannot be authenticated because the signatures were not obtained by Upper Deck.
We appreciate the patience of those who have registered redemptions for these cards. Given the additional time for fulfillment, should anyone wish to receive a replacement, you can request that by emailing [email protected]. We are working dutifully to get completed authentic cards out to those who registered them with Upper Deck as soon as possible.
