Upper Deck has announced general release dates for bringing more of products to its e-Pack platform.
After launching several weeks ago with its Series 1 Hockey brand, the company will offer 2015-16 Series 2 Hockey and MVP Hockey this month.
e-Pack allows collectors to “open” trading cards online with the ability to transfer insert cards pulled from those packs to a COMC account where they can be listed for sale or scheduled for shipping. Other cards remain digital unless you accumulate enough of a certain single to trade them in for an e-Pack exclusive physical card.
e-Pack boxes can be purchased but collectors who sign up for the program can open one three card pack for free every day.
Upper Deck said Tuesday it would continue to release hobby products ahead of anything offered via e-Pack but that the time between on-shelf releases and e-Pack releases will vary, depending on the product. Only certain products will be sold via e-Pack.
The upcoming e-Pack release schedule includes:
2015-16 NHL Upper Deck MVP – Available March 2016
2015-16 NHL Upper Deck Series Two – Available March 2016 (not before March 17)
2015-16 NHL Ultimate Collection – Available Summer 2016
2016-17 NHL Upper Deck MVP – Available Summer 2016
2016-17 NHL Upper Deck Series One – Available Fall 2016
2016 Goodwin Champions – Available Summer 2016
Upper Deck says it’s not planning to market e-Pack through physical hobby products or advertise e-Pack within the hobby. They’re marketing it toward former collectors, general fans and consumers.
The company says it printed Series 1 hockey for e-Pack at the same time it produced the hobby version, but in smaller quantities and promises that “ratios and collation in the e-Pack product are comparable with Upper Deck’s hobby products.”
Upper Deck has hired Dynamics, a payment and technology company, to audit and provide reporting on both hobby and e-Pack products “to ensure that inserts and ratios are consistent across Upper Deck’s hobby and e-Pack products.”.
