The ultimate flip apparently worked out OK…although not quite to the pre-sale hype for a Legendary Lineups autographed card.
The Upper Deck Legendary Lineups autograph cut plaque bought in a recent Heritage Galleries auction was re-sold on eBay New Year’s Eve.
The plaque features the signatures of nine Hall of Famers – including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Ty Cobb. The piece was originally the grand prize in an Upper Deck pack promotion. It was sold by Heritage for $27,000. It was turned it into a public relations tool and after a brief run on the FreeSell.com website, was moved to eBay. According to the listing, final selling price was $62,100. The PR blitz landed some air time on Fox TV, wiich may have helped.
"I have never seen a piece like this," FreeSell CEO Dan Jelladian told the New York Daily News. In the eBay listing, he claimed it should be worth $1 million.
Hopefully the winning bidder knows the cut signatures of the nine players can be purchased much cheaper on the open market and is buying the item as a 1 of 1 Upper Deck collectible.
