Singles Day is coming for hockey fans. Rest easy…it has nothing to do with your marital status but rather the shopping day associated with the annual lineup of single digits on the calendar (11/11). According to Forbes, Singles Day has grown to be the largest shopping day on earth (yes, worldwide it’s bigger than Black Friday).
On Nov. 11, Upper Deck will unveil its inaugural Singles Day Bounty program. Collectors can participate by obtaining Singles Day Winter packs at hobby shops that were invited to participate in the inaugural program. The packs are free with a purchase of $10 or more beginning on Nov. 10. Hobby shops will be invited to participate in the next several days and Upper Deck will release a list of participating stores sometime in November.
The Singles Day Winter packs contain four cards — three player cards and one information card. They will feature NHL superstars, stars from other sports and a Team Canada standout. Collectors also might find Winter Frost parallel cards numbered to 25.
There will be a 15-card base set, with each card containing a scratch-off bounty code. Each code must be registered on an account created at www.UpperDeckBounty.com.
On Nov. 11, the first 99 collectors who redeem the 15-card set beginning at 7:45 a.m. PST at www.upperdeckbounty.com will earn a complete Singles Day Winter Green parallel set numbered to 99.
Collectors who redeem the 15-card set between Nov. 16 at 7:45 a.m. PST and Nov. 16 at 11:59 p.m. PST will be entered in a sweepstakes for one Winter parallel autograph card.
Winners will be selected via a random drawing while supplies last, Upper Deck said. Collectors are limited to one entry per Bounty account, and one autograph card for each winner.
There will also will be a potential benefit for collectors who can complete the 2018-19 O-Pee-Chee base set (600 cards) or 2018 Goodwin Champions base sets (200 cards, including Goudey inserts). Collectors who bring them to participating shops during business hours on Nov. 11 can enter a contest to win a special four-color set box to hold their cards.
“Upper Deck’s Singles Day promotion is designed to ignite collectors’ passion for using single cards to complete sets while visiting hobby shops,” Upper Deck President Jason Masherah said. “Singles Day is a promotion we are dedicated to growing with the help of our network of Certified Diamond Dealers.”
Additionally, armed service veterans who visit participating shops in the United States and Canada during business hours on Nov. 11 — Veterans Day and Remembrance Day, respectively — will receive one free commemorative Winter Museum Collection Veteran card while supplies last. Upper Deck will reveal more details about these cards and will provide images at www.UpperDeckBlog.com on Oct. 26.
Collectors also can win various prizes on social media by following @UpperDeckSports on Twitter and Instagram. Details and rules regarding the social media promotion will be shared at www.UpperDeckBlog.com on Nov. 5. Prizes will include boxes of hobby product and Upper Deck Authenticated memorabilia. The social media contest is for those 18 and older.
