…no, it won’t be a horror film about cases of 1952 Topps being dumped into the ocean.
Hollywood has been on a bit of a baseball card bent of late.
There was last year’s quiet release of Diminished Capacity, a comedy starring Alan Alda and Matthew Broderick, which focused on a T206-type card worth a fortune (of course).
Now comes word via some insider blogs that a new flick centered around a valuable 1952 baseball card will soon go into production. Titled A Couple of Dicks, the movie is set to star Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as a couple of LAPD detectives (dicks, get it?), who are put in charge of finding the valuable card, which has been stolen. We don’t know much more than that, but the film will apparently be produced by Warner Brothers and directed by Kevin Smith, who wrote and directed the highly successful comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
The new screenplay, written by Robb and Marc Cullen, has been on Hollywood’s 2008 "blacklist", a compilation of some of the best screenplays that have yet to turn into movies.
The film is tentatively scheduled to be released January 29, 2010.
