Huggins and Scott’s sixth and final Masterpiece Auction of 2013 begins on Monday with the bidding closing on Thursday night December 12 with the 30-minute rule beginning at 11:00pm eastern time.
Among the unique items up for bid will be a 1960 Bell Brand Sandy Koufax, still in its unopened cellophane packaging. Bell Brand Potato Chip cards were a constant on southern California grocery shelves in the late 1950’s and early 60’s.
Vintage card collectors will see some significant pre-War cards in this auction including an E102 Christy Mathewson PSA 6, a T206 Ty Cobb (Bat Off Shoulder)with a scarce Factory 42 reverse SGC 60, an 1887 Kalamazoo Bats Smiling Al Maul SGC 30, a collection of PSA graded T200 Fatima Team Cards, numerous graded T205s and T206s from a new-to-the-hobby collection, Goudey Ruth’s and more.
The post-war collection offers a large number of complete and near sets from 1948-1973; Hall of Fame rookie cards including Mantle, Mays, Koufax, Clemente,Rose, Ryan and the usual array of ‘shoebox collections’.
Autographed lots including baseballs, bats, lithographs, photographs and others consigned by collectors from all across the country. Highlights include: single-signed baseballs from Ruth, Foxx, Clemente, Maris and Munson; team-signed baseballs from 1919 Tigers, 1929 Athletics, 1930, 1931, 1936, 1954 and 1999 Yankees and others.
There is a dual-signed album page with Ruth and Gehrig; a late 1920s Athletics team-signed bat; signed flats including Cy Young, George Wright, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, Joe Tinker, Hack Wilson, John McGraw, Jimmie Foxx, Mel Ott and many others.
Those who love old display pieces will see an original Cy Yount Tobacco tin, a 1935 Lou Gehrig Wheaties Advertisement, several early scorecards and ticket lots including tickets from Ted Williams’ final game; Mickey Mantle’s final home run; World Series programs from 1912, 1924, 1932 and 1933 and more.
Game-used memorabilia to be offered includes a pair of 1983 Phillies World Series jerseys of Steve Carlton and Mike Schmidt; a 1977 Earl Weaver Orioles jersey with a cigarette pouch; a 1996 Nomar Garciaparra home jersey; a 2008 Derek Jeter Yankees home jersey; a Jorge Posada catcher’s glove and spikes; a 1940’s Red Sox warm up jacket and football jerseys of Marshall Faulk, Jerome Bettis and London Fletcher.
Huggins and Scott will feature a selection of football, basketball and hockey sets and near sets; an incredible 1951 Sammy Baugh player’s contract; a 1969 Green Bay Packers team-signed football with Lombardi autograph; Weeb Ewbank’s 1965 NY Jets Playbook; a unique one dollar bill signed by Cassius Clay,
Sonny Liston and Joe Louis; a Sugar Ray Robinson single-signed glove; an 18K gold pocket watch presented to JJ McDermott for winning the 1911 US Open; Pat McCormick’s 1984 Olympic Torch and Helsinki Olympic Flag; and an incredible Quad Signed 1 of 1 basketball card featuring Jordan, Bird, Magic and Dr. J.
