It won’t be available for another couple of months, but a new trading card holder is in the pipeline.
California-based Ultra PRO will debut its CardPreserver protective holder that it says will bring some versatility to one of the most commonly used products in the trading card space.
Measuring 3” wide by 4” tall, the CardPreserver was designed to combine the rigidness of the Toploader card holder with the soft loading nature of a card sleeve.
Made of polypropylene rather than PVC for less risky long-term storage, the new holders will work for both standard-size cards and those up to 35-point thickness.
Each CardPreserver includes a resealable flap that keeps the enclosed card from falling out.
Ultra PRO Vice President of Brand Strategy Enrique Ruvalcaba called the new holders a “two-in-one” product.
“And they are also great for submitting cards to grading companies,” he stated. “With the CardPreserver, there’s no longer a need to add a penny sleeve to a Toploader or semi rigid because your card is already fully protected on all sides.”
The product blends a semi-rigid back with a soft sleeve front into which collectors can insert their card. A protective exterior strip on the back can be peeled away, exposing an adhesive stripe onto which they marry the 1.5” outer flap. Once the card is tucked in, it can be stored safely with no deterioration to the card.
Ultra PRO says the new holders also make it easier to load and remove cards, which minimizes touch, thus reducing the risk of damage.
“There’s nothing quite like it in the market,” Ruvalcaba promised.
The CardPreserver can be used for most sports and non-sports trading cards. A pack of 25 CardPreservers will retail for $4.99 and will be available for purchase in the first quarter of next year.
