A small part of the floor on which college basketball’s reigning national champions played has been turned into trading cards.
The Players Trunk, UConn and three players from the 2022-23 men’s team have teamed up for a trio of cards that are now on the market.
The cards picture NBA first round draft pick Andre Jackson Jr., Chicago Bulls free agent Adama Sanogo and current Huskies star Tristen Newton. A square piece from UConn’s Gampel Pavilion measuring just over one inch square is embedded in each card.
The court was used by five men’s championship teams during its use from 1990-2023. After the end of the basketball season, UConn began replacing the floor that was installed at Gampel just after its opening in 1990. The Players Trunk has produced the only trading cards to include pieces of the historic court.
Two different types of court pieces are included: 1) the traditional hardwood floor and 2) blue and white pieces from the lane that include parts of the Big East logo. Each card is individually numbered with a gold-foil stamp and printed on a 96-point cardboard stock. Photography is from games played at Gampel Pavilion during the 2022-2023 season.
In all, 500 cards have been made: 175 of Jackson and Sanogo and 150 of Newton. The cards are priced at $50. The players are directly compensated with each sale.
Earlier this year, The Player’s Trunk produced cards commemorating the school’s 2023 national championship. Those are sold out. The company has been producing cards of other schools as well as part of the new NIL rules.
