If you owned a T3 Turkey Red card, would you give it away if someone asked nicely? One business owner did.
There are 100 baseball players in the 1910-11 T3 Turkey Red Cabinets set. Some, like Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson and Cy Young are baseball immortals. Other names in the set have been all but lost to history; remembered only by students of early 20th century baseball and advanced collectors. The premium set is among the most beautiful, popular and expensive groups on the market.
Ira Thomas is card #123–part of the group issued in 1911 and available only through a mail-in offer. Most are behind protective slabs in the hands of collectors and dealers lucky enough to own them. But not all.
Thomas was Catherine King Eddy grandfather’s cousin. The Saratoga, New York resident has been chasing down her relative’s memorabilia for some time and thanks to the generosity of a local restaurant owner, she has just added a very special vintage baseball card to her collection.
"I can hardly believe it," she told the local newspaper, which chronicled the story.
