Troy Tulowitzki may not have known what a rare feat he pulled off last weekend. The Colorado Rockies’ shortstop casually flipped the ball used in the 13th unassisted triple play in baseball history into the stands.
It was a rookie mistake. Tossing a valuable piece of baseball memorabilia into the crowd is asking for trouble–unless you’re an amazingly nice guy. The unassisted triple play baseball from Sunday’s Rockies/Braves game could have wound up on eBay..or in a major auction house.
Instead, the surprised fan who caught Troy Tulowitzki’s gift is hoping to give the ball back to the young infielder who apparently now realizes he was a little too quick to please the folks in the lower box seats.
"Our hope is that at the earliest opportunity we will schedule a meeting with Troy and Steffan to exchange an autographed item for the baseball," said Jay Alves, vice president of communications for the Rockies.
