Trevor Story cards have been the story of the 2016 baseball season so far, sending collectors scurrying back into their stashes of 2011 Bowman.
Story set a record Sunday when he hit his seventh homer in the Colorado Rockies’ first six games.
The 23-year-old’s cards have been red hot. From April 3-9, more than $119,000 worth of Story cards were sold on eBay. The average sell-through rate of his 2011 cards was a stunning 93%. The average price of one of his cards soared to $72.30.
Those 2011 Bowman cards were leading the charge. Late last week, a Chrome Red Refractor auto, numbered to 5, sold for a whopping $9,500. A Purple Refractor numbered to 10 and rated 9 by Beckett Grading sold for $1,500. An Orange numbered to 25 and graded 9.5 went for $1,799 but that was topped by a $2,000 sale.
At Mike’s Stadium Sportscards in Aurora, CO, three local TV stations looking to cover the business side of the local sensation stopped by, including Fox affiliate KDVR.
