Topps has signed a multi-year deal with the estate of legendary Pittsburgh Pirates star Roberto Clemente and will feature his autograph and relic cards next year.
Collectors can expect to find several types of Clemente insert cards, including cut signatures and relics, throughout the company’s 2012 products. Topps Series 1 will be the first product to offer a sampling of these cards.
His image has been missing from Topps cards for a couple of years.
Clemente made his first Topps appearance in 1955 and he would hold a spot in the base set for the next 18 years. Clemente’s vintage and current Topps cards are some of the most sought after collectibles in the hobby. Even EX or EX-NM cards often sell for more than $1,000 in graded form.
Three Clemente cards were recently voted among Topps’ best 60 cards of all-time (1955, 1956 and 1973).
