Topps released a few more images from its next major baseball release on Wednesday, one that has dealers hoping for a repeat of last year. 2012 Gypsy Queen will be very similar to last year’s surprise hit.
A 350-card base set with 50 short prints is at the heart of this 19th century style throwback but it’s all of those 21st century chase cards that generally get the buzz going.
Part of this year’s mix are a series of Topps exclusive icons featuring vintage Indian Head pennies embedded in the cardboard. Topps showed off the Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb cards and an uncut sheet of blue parallels as it gears up for the release of the product that wound up being limited to a low production run in 2011, forcing some serious mark up on the secondary market. Boxes are pre-selling for around $100.
Basketball card collectors have been starved for product this year because of the NBA lockout. Panini America will release 2011-12 Limited in May, promising more than 10 unique autograph designs, a 200-card base set and special Rookie Redemption cards good for players from the 2011 and 2012 NBA Drafts.
Two autographs and one memorabilia card will be included in each six-card pack of this higher end product.
Lakers fans have to be drooling over some of those signed cards the company is teasing.
Upper Deck says it recently completed the autograph rookie redemptions for 2011-12 NHL Artifacts and they expect to have the unsigned versions done next week. Those will all begin shipping to fans this month. Two are pictured below along with a couple of signed cards from its 2012 SP Authentic Golf that features seven signatures of members of the 2010 U.S. Ryder Cup. You can see four of them in the image below. On the other side will be Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson.
Upper Deck says it’ll also be rolling out an octo-autograph card from the 2011 Presidents Cup signed by Fred Couples, Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Webb Simpson and Bill Haas. It will likely be limited to just three copies.
