Topps sprung its 2018 flagship baseball card design on its social media followers Thursday. You can see the front of Clint Frazier’s rookie card below.
The design continues the company’s push toward full-bleed photos and incorporates a sort of “video action” font in which you can sort of imaging the graphics flying onto a video screen. While some aren’t sure about the “wave” design that pushes the team logo, overall it’s a modern, sharp look–at least in my opinion.
Some have criticized Topps for continuing to go full-bleed rather than using a border. For years, collectors begged Topps to ditch the old school look and offer a new look to its primary set. Now some of those same people are complaining that the company won’t move away from the borderless design.
You can’t win.
2017 Topps Series One baseball cards are due out the week of January 31.
