In an effort to support the launch of its first baseball card product of the year, Topps in conjunction with the MLBPA, will host a special Gold Rush promotion on redemption card set in its 2012 Topps Series One release early next year.
“This promotion will provide collectors with value and hobby stores with unique tools to create excitement and support the launch,” states a company news release.
Topps will reveal more details later, but they promise that “The Gold Rush” will include a special wrapper redemption program that will include small packs of cards featuring random autographs. Special Gold Rush tickets found in Series 1 product will unlock gold infused autographed baseballs tri-signed by Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Ken Griffey Jr.
Topps plans to plant elements of real gold with in its products and will turn its ‘Diamond Dig’ online promotion into a ‘Gold Dig’.
Topps is counting on card shops to buy into the special program by executing recommended promotions. The company claims its 2012 base brand will be “loaded with content, loaded with creativity, loaded with special hits and literally, loaded with gold.”
In addition, Topps has developed a Gold Rush program for the hobby stores. Every hobby store that signs up will get a special “Gold Rush” Launch Kit to hold their a Series 1 product launch event. The kit is designed to “help create excitement, build traffic and ultimately drive sales,” according to Topps.
