It’s way to early to tell, of course, but the 2012 Topps Finest Redemption Mike Trout autograph card could be sizzling for the rest of the year and beyond. The company made it official on Thursday, indicating that the #3 redemption card inside its recently released Finest packs can be turned in for a signed Trout card.
On eBay Thursday afternoon, one of those blue redemption cards sold for $215 and another was offered at $300. Only two were currently available on eBay as of Thursday night.
The signature is on a sticker, according to Topps’ promotional release.
It’s not Trout’s rookie card, however. He’s eligible for the Rookie of the Year award after being on a big league roster for just 38 days last year but appeared in enough games that his ‘official’ rookie card according to the Topps/MLB partnership, were those issued last year. He also appeared in 2009 Bowman Sterling and Bowman Chrome.
Trout, of course, is having an unprecedented first full big league season, showing remarkable hitting skills and tremendous base stealing ability. Hard as it may seem, his star has now surpassed that of teenage phenom Bryce Harper–at least for now.
Trout joins Starling Marte and Brett Jackson as the first two announced redemption autographs in the 2012 Finest set. Both of those appear to be on card autographs. Five different cards will be produced.
