Collectors who’ve purchased the recently released Walmart exclusive Topps Holiday boxes have noticed one card seemed to be tougher to find than the others. On Monday, Topps confirmed that base card #107, Cole Hamels, wasn’t produced in the same quantity as the others in the 200-card set.
Topps blames a production error. They say the card isn’t “scarce” but “may be slightly tougher to find.”
The cards in the set are similar to the 2017 Topps flagship product, but carry a wintry theme with snowflakes on the front.
Each $20 box contains either a relic card, autographed card or an auto relic card. There are also Metallic parallels of the base cards.
Some base sets being pieced together and sold online don’t include the Hamels card, which has been selling for up to $50 on eBay by itself. Over 3,000 singles and boxes have been posted for sale and auction since the promotion started less than two weeks ago.
