Topps has found another potential revenue source with the announcement that it is selling poster prints of players made from its original archive photos. Many of the posters, which vary in size and price, were the same ones used to create cards of a particular player.
Hundreds of re-mastered original Topps photographs are already on the company’s website, including numerous Hall of Famers.
So far, the company has released an image of a very young Johnny Bench used on his 1969 Topps card, several featuring Yogi Berra as a coach and manager in the 1970s and 80’s and various shots of Ernie Banks signing autographs and posing for the Topps photographer.
Prices generally range from $14.99 for an 11×14 mini poster to $29.99 for 18×24 and $39.99 for a 21 ½ x 29 ½ size poster.
The photography is sharp looking and Topps promises they were created using state-of-the-art digital technology and printed on a rigid ultra-high gloss UV coated trading card stock using archival inks to help maintain the color over time.
Most are single players, but Topps has packaged a few of the images together for the Dodgers, Red Sox, Tigers and Cardinals as well as a single-player compilation for Reggie Jackson.
For the past several years, the company has offered original negatives, contract and artwork through the Topps Vault eBay store and auction platform, which continues to run weekly listings.
