Topps is planning to go big when it comes to one of its inserts in this fall’s 2013 Topps Five Star Baseball product.
The company has announced that it is putting a together a 1/1 25-piece Signature Book Card as one of the premier hits in the high end issue, set for later this year. It’s the second year for Five Star, which debuted last year amid mixed reviews with many collectors happy with the content but others upset about the chipping of edges and corners that made the cards look worn right off the bat.
Cases will include three packs/boxes which are expected to be priced at around $500 each.
You will get some autograph bang for your buck. Five Star will include: two autographs of past and present stars, one autographed patch or additional autographed card, one autographed book card or Silver Signatures autographed card, one Jumbo Swatch, Patch, Batting Glove, MLB Logo, Bat Plate or Bat Knob Relic and one base card.
At only one base card per box, it’ll take a yeoman’s effort to put a full set together as there will be 100 on the checklist, with each numbered to only 60.
Retired players and current stars will be in 2013 Five Star with Topps drawing on its exclusive trading card contracts with Sandy Koufax, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr. and others. Oddly, there will be an autographed card of soccer legend Pele among the chase cards.
Topps says Five Star won’t be released until December. They did pass out several preview images and more information on the content which you can see below.
