The regular season will be right around the corner when 2016 Topps Opening Day Baseball marks a return of the popular, low-cost product.
Opening Day is once again more of a set building experience aimed primarily at younger collectors but should have enough to keep adults interested.
Just as in the Topps Series One flagship set, Angels’ superstar Mike Trout is card #1. A full checklist is available below.
Autograph and Opening Day relic cards will be randomly inserted in
the seven card packs that will arrive the week of March 16, just after the flagship 2016 Topps Baseball series.
The Opening Day base set will include 200 rookies and veterans including 75 preview cards from Series 2, all carrying the 2016 Opening Day logo.
Base set parallels will include:
- Opening Day Edition: The entire base set is printed on foilboard and receives 2016’s Opening Day date. Sequentially numbered to 2016.
- Opening Day 1/1 Edition: A black border surrounds the foilboard card. Each is 1/1.
- Printing Plates Every base subject will have their 4 plates inserted in the product. 800 total plates. All numbered 1/1.
Opening Day will have one insert card per pack. Superstar Celebrations and Opening Day Stars return while new insert subsets include:
Alternate Reality: Players wearing their team’s alternate jerseys.
Heavy Hitters: 15 of the biggest power hitters in the game.
Striking Distance: Players with records and milestones within reach during the 2016 season receive special recognition.
Bubble Trouble: Stars of the game show off their talents with bubble gum.
There are 36 packs per box with online hobby box prices currently falling between $30 and $40 (click here to see them along with sets and other listings).
