From the time he was a kid until he left home to start his pro career, Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch was an avid card collector.
With the MLB interleague schedule putting the Astros in New York City last week, he stopped by the Topps offices for a segment that appeared on MLB Network and MLB.com. You can watch it below.
Topps has released a couple of new on-demand sets. One will feature highlights from this weekend’s London Series between the Yankees and Red Sox. You can buy regular sets or one with an autograph. The info is here.
Topps has also unveiled its latest “Throwback Thursday” set, one that honors the 40th anniversary of the 1979 set. It’s an “All-Time All Stars” issue with a six-card checklist that includes Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Cal Ripken Jr., Ken Griffey Jr. and Mariano Rivera.
Sets can be found here and are priced at $19.99 or $30 for 3. They’ll be available until next Thursday.
The Living Set card of Mike Trout sold 22,017 copies after it became available last week as card #200 in the ongoing issue. That’s the fifth most on the sales list since the company began the offering last year.
This week’s cards are now available with three new players including Rod Carew.
