Topps and Major League Soccer will be trading card partners for at least a few more years.
The two entities announced a “multi-year” extension of their exclusive partnership for both physical and digital cards and collectibles on Thursday. The move came on the day America’s top pro soccer league announced it was putting its 25th anniversary season on hold because of the Coronavirus.
Topps’ upcoming MLS products will include cards featuring more than 700 MLS players from all 26 teams, including new franchises, Inter Miami CF and Nashville SC.
“Major League Soccer is proud to extend our partnership with Topps,” said Maribeth Towers, Senior Vice President of Consumer Products, MLS. “Topps is an iconic trading card brand that continues to be forward-thinking with MLS in the promotion of our league, clubs and players domestically and internationally.”
Topps’ physical MLS products will launch in Spring 2020 with Topps NOW, the on-demand trading card that will celebrate key moments from MLS matches. Topps also will release its flagship physical card sets, featuring emerging MLS rookies and veteran superstars from around the league.
“We are incredibly excited to extend and grow our partnership with Topps,” said Dan Jones, Chief Operating Officer of the MLSPA. “As we enter new markets and create new fan bases, Topps NOW is an exciting opportunity for fans to follow and celebrate their favorite players in new and innovative ways.”
Topps’ digital MLS cards are available via the Topps Kick mobile app. Users can collect, trade and play their digital MLS cards with other fans and participate in in-app games and fantasy-like contests where the cards in their collections score in real-time. The app is currently available to download for free in the iOS App Store and Google Play Store.
