A new baseball card season is set to arrive (officially, anyway) in hobby shops and retail outlets across North America on Wednesday. If you couldn’t wait that long, a few hobby shops got a head start with a new Topps in-store promotion.
The long-time maker of official MLB cards worked with four stores to set up live case breaks of 2015 Series 1 Baseball Tuesday night, giving collectors in every continental time zone a chance to see the newest edition.
The stores included:
9 p.m. Dakota Gaming (Bismarck, ND)
10 p.m. Mike’s Stadium Sportscards (Aurora, CO)
11 p.m. Legacy Sports Cards (Las Vegas, NV)
The case breaks were streamed live on Topps’ YouTube channel.
Also on Tuesday night, long-time collector Keith Olbermann was again given the honor of opening a ceremonial first pack on his nightly show, airing on ESPN.
A few eager collectors found blaster boxes of 2015 Topps in Target stores that put them out a little early. Some of those pulls made their way to eBay.
So far, the First Pitch insert set which features, among others, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and fellow rocker Jack White, have been among the most popular cards with the rookie card of Cuban newcomer Rusney Castillo and the new ‘First Home Run’ commemorative coin cards also drawing interest. You can see an up-to-the-minute rundown of newly listed cards on eBay here.
