The Topps Company now has a permanent presence in Japan. The company says the goal of a new Tokyo office it’s just opened is to “better serve the Japanese and Asian market’s increasing demand for trading cards.” Topps will use the facility to offer increased support to local customers and collectors in Asia.
“With 80 years of card creating history under our belt, we’re thrilled to continue growing our brand with this exciting expansion into Japan,” stated David Leiner, Topps’ VP & Global General Manager of Sports & Entertainment.
Topps’ Marketing Director Wendy Freedman says they have hired three employees to staff the office with plans to six in all. The positions are locally based.
“The Japan opening has been in the works for a while, delayed last year due to the circumstances, but we are excited to have a full team in the region,” she told SC Daily on Tuesday.
Topps’ new sports and entertainment office in Tokyo will mark its first in Japan. The location will add to the company’s global footprint, with its headquarters in New York City, multiple locations across Europe and offices in India and Brazil.
Freedman says Topps has seen growth across “a broad range of products and all licenses” in Japan in recent years.
Topps won’t be the only major sports collectible company with a presence in Japan. In the fall of 2018, PSA also opened a facility in Tokyo, making it easier for customers in the country to submit their cards for authentication and grading in the U.S.
