2015 Topps Apex Soccer, a new MLS product, will arrive later this summer and a first look appears it’ll be a very Inception-like design.
Available only in hobby boxes, the Crest Jumbo Relics will feature a jumbo relic swatch shaped in the form of the new MLS league crest. Parallels will include sequentially numbered Gold, Orange (# to 25), Red patch (# to 5), Black Adidas (1/1) and 1/1 Printing Plates which will also contain a match-worn jersey patch.
Topps will put 100 players in the base set including rookie cards of MLS newcomers such as Mix Diskerud, David Villa, Sebastian Giovinco and Frank Lampard. Base Card parallels will include Gold, Orange (# to 25), Red (# to 5), Black (1/1) and Printing Plates (1/1). There will also be additional base card short prints.
Autograph subsets will include Now and Then Duals, which pair MLS icons of the past with current stars and standard Duals, which will thematically pair subjects from across the league on sequentially numbered cards.
Other autograph content includes Match Day Die Cut Relics, featuring a large piece of a match-used soccer ball paired with an autograph (1 per hobby case). Parallels for all autographed cards will include Red (# to 5) and 1/1 Black.
Insert cards will include Captains and Alliances, each with Gold, Orange, Red, Black and Printing Plate parallels.
2015 Topps Apex Soccer is set for release the week of August 26.
Topps also announced that the first MLS autograph cards of international soccer superstar, and current New York City FC forward, David Villa, are in 2015 Topps MLS.
Villa, who has scored 299 career club goals and 59 international tallies, was named NYCFC’s first-ever team captain and registered the first home goal in franchise history.
In addition, Villa has also achieved the rare trio of winning FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles. He remains Spain’s all-time top goal scorer. You can see 2015 Topps MLS on eBay here.
